You don't think all of this has been tried by me?
I don't need the concept of an imaginary friend to get me through life and make me a decent person.
Oh, and as I've managed to get to know myself better, the less I have needed a deity to lean on.
Maybe you don't need a deity to get through a life and make you a decent person from a standard you have. But what if you can attain higher stages through connecting to a higher light?
What if you can reach the following station with constant prayer to God:
Enlighten the eyes of our hearts with the light of their looking at You to the extent that they penetrate the veils of light and reach the Source of Grandeur, and let our souls get suspended by the glory of Your sanctity.
My Lord, make me one of those whom You call and they respond; when You look at and they are thunderstruck by Your majesty. You whisper to them secretly and they work for You openly.
If you were meant for something higher.
Don't you sometimes watch movies and wish you can be a hero, the goodness in them you wish you can have it.
A close friend of God is like a hero. It's like being Gandalf the white.
Now wanting it won't make God real. But don't you think it's worth the effort to search out the higher knowledge if it exists, so not to miss out on this reward and opportunity?
