I agrree. Enforcing is a more appropriate word than promoting where Stalin and the Spanish Inquisition are concerned. And I'd go so far as to say that the only reason such things are not happening (n the open) today is because the Church no longer has the power to act above the law. There are a lot of people who would love to see those days return.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.
