The R&R Hall of Fame isn't so much a joke because who is in (although this is ripe for debate), but because of those that have been omitted; e.g. Deep Purple and Iron Maiden. ABBA being in and these bands being left out is the same as having Cooperstown enshrine Mario Mendoza while ignoring Ernie Banks.

You are trying to use the omissions to justify your own tastes. If it worked like that I most certainly would NOT put Bob Dylan in there.
I watch the NFL induction year after year. Sometimes I run across a player I never heard of, and think about the players that don't get in, especially the ones from my team.
It isn't a lack of talent by Dylan or ABBA or the ones who don't get in, it is simply a matter of limits.
I listen to someone like Elvis and cant understand why so many like him. I would call him a talented performer certianly, but most of his songs were written for him and his lyrics also were not that deep, but he WAS a talented person.
