No, I don't see it as a joke. Proselytizing a religion that dulls the mind, slenderizes the true Creator and teaches people to instead worship some low level regional manager who creates a world that has not the slightest resemblance to the world we live in is no joke. In fact, in the Bible God and saten ore often given credit for the same acts.  If you dare me to show you, I will, but don't get mad at me. I didn't write it.

Regarding the tree of life

If A and E were already immortal, what was the purpose of having a tree of life that would give them what they already had? But then, if they were already mortal, why threaten them with death if they were already going to die? In my opening post, I showed that we are not talking about spiritual death, since the spirit does not return to dust. So don't try to go there.

The authors clearly weren't very deep thinkers and did not notice the paradox they were creating with this story.
