Carter's attitude has changed. In 1945 he likely acquiesced in or supported all the sexism he condemns in 2009. But I don't see why changing over time as life lessons are learnt would make someone a hypocrite. The SBC has gotten vocal over the years, becoming more political party than church clearinghouse.

The models shown above are rather stiff even by Saudi standards, which permit the eyes to be exposed through a slit in the abaya, which is always black, and worn on the head as accessory to the normal long dress. Burqas are just too Bedouin for wealthy urban women, these look Afghani ca. 1950. But they're making a comeback lately in many countries, in new colors and styles.
