Automatically dismissing people who vote for a given party that one finds 'extreme' or whatever is a dangerous tactic to employ.
UKIP, like them or not, IMHO, will get a 3rd of the total votes cast this election, though in terms of seats I suspect they will get hardly any due to FPTP and the spread of their voter base.
People identify with UKIP for one reason or another, and dismissing these people is dangerous, especially when they make up such a large % of the public by recent polls. You have to ask why they're voting for them, and really try and understand it. Immigration will certainly be an obvious point, as will EU membership. Can anyone here honestly remember the political parties having an open and honest discussions on either of these subjects?
