RE: Blues and Jazz discussion thread

A while ago, my uncle got me this box set of blues. It was something like 12 discs and just a whole shit load of different artists (This was my first introduction to Mississippi John Hurt). I noticed that a lot of the song listings were incorrect, so it mad it difficult to know who exactly was singing what. Which was the case for this next song.
The song was listed completely wrong, but I was able to figure out that it was Stardust written by Hoagy Carmicheal, and that this version was performed by Ella Fitzgerald. I wanted to transcribe it to guitar, but I was never able to find the version I needed. I eventually learned the Hoagy Carmicheal version, which is pretty enough, but it totally lacked the dark twist from the Ella version. What's more is that any google search just showed other more popular versions of Ella singing Stardust. I also lost the CD, so any chance o me transcribing it by ear is gone.
But! Today, I thought I'd do a search and throw whatever version of Stardust I found up here, since I've grown pretty fond of the many different versions, and instead I found the exact recording! Now, hopefully this will lead to finding out who was playing what and what year it was recorded, and maybe find some sheet music. At the very least, I have a chance of learning it by ear again.
Holy shit! This is a good day for search results. This next song is by Pat Donahue of the Guy's All-Star Shoe Band from A Prairie Home Companion. In fact, the first time I heard this song was from the DVD extras from the APHC movie. This was the first song I learned with slide. I spent probably an hour trying to listen for the open strings to figure out how to tune my guitar to his, and when I was done it ended up being Open D, which I was already familiar with. Felt pretty silly after that.
So years later I forgot the song and could never find it again. Thought I'd try my luck and apparently Pat has put out a few more songs on youtube.
