This sort of thing should be brought up for the benefit of the idiots who imagine that Islam is the only religion to inspire such things. The KKK about a 100 years ago was a Christian organization, which had millions of members. For the benefit of the Catholics who will point out that the KKK was protestant, the Catholic church had the Inquisition, which tortured people in various ways, as well as burned people alive. The Inquisition was stopped by secular authorities, not because the Catholic church decided it was a bad idea. And that is why it lasted longer in some countries than in others.
And, of course, it is not just monotheistic religions that have done horrible, violent things. Hindus and Buddhists also engage in religion-related violence. See:
