As far as I'm aware, the age of sexual maturity has always been around seventeen and it's the fact that God made childbirth so dangerous that brought down average life expectancy.

Um, depending on how you're defining sexual maturity (I'm assuming you mean the end of puberty), it can vary greatly, but, it seems the average for the end of puberty is about 15 or 16. Then again, it can end as late as 25 years.

And, as it turns out, there's some evidence that puberty is actually starting younger and younger.
