Southern edge of Greater Los Angeles actually abut northern edge of greater San Diego along I-15, between Temecula and Escandido, my wife owns a house there. It's true the two metropolises seem separate along the coast and I-5, largely because the huge area there occupied by Camp Pendleton marine base, but they are touching further inland.
