Ask someone completely disillusioned about Americanism.
I've lived 13 of the last 16 months in Mexico. I prefer it here.

Ask away.

Why are Mexicans disillusioned about the greatness of 'Murica?

Any specifics you'd like to share?

What do you like better there?

Are Americans still assailed by over a dozen street peddlers whenever they sit down for lunch in an open air cafe?  Dodgy

First and foremost, the people here are for the most part, warm and friendly.

Life is simpler, and slower paced. Within two blocks of our home, I can buy fresh produce, fish, coffee, etc. Within our neighborhood, we have countless restaurants, representing cuisine from all over the world.

I wake every day to the sound of birds.

If you eat in tourist areas, yes. We tend to avoid the tourist traps.

Sounds fantastic, I hope that's the direction we can head towards here in the us as well.  Or at least have more neighborhoods like that with greater access to them for a larger demographic than we currently have.  That's pretty much the exburban dream.

With respect to the thread title, is it that you moved there (rather than an american exburb) specifically because you were disillusioned with america somehow?  What was the thing that stuck out most - had the largest share of your disatisfaction?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Would you have liked to have grown up there, or is this more about life now in (semi) retirement?
