I'm an American, and I am a supporter of the American military. It has a job to do defending freedom around the world, and I wish them success because no one else is going to do the dirty work that needs to be done to bring that freedom to those who don't have it.

But does that mean that if a few soldiers get out of line and massacre some civilians (My Lai) (Google it if you have to) that I am going to be supportive of them, also? Or if their commanding officers try to cover up the massacre, I'll support them, too? Of course not. Soldiers who commit war crimes should be punished. Officers and civilians involved in the cover-up need to be prosecuted, also. But I still support the VAST majority of our service men and women who serve their country honorably.

What percentage of Catholic priests have molested altar boys, Parker? Why am I even asking? You get your news from Reddit and Steven Colbert. About 1%. Which is HALF - maybe a THIRD - of the percentage of teachers who abuse children in the public schools.

So, let me be clear: priests who molested children need to go to prison. Bishops who covered this up need to go into retirement. But I still support the VAST majority of the deacons, priests Bishops, and religious (male and female) who serve our Lord and His Church honorably.
