The bandgap on silicon that allows the capture of visible light photons is of the order of 2eV - Visible light is around 1~2eV.
4eV is already UV.

40eV ~ 400 keVs is X-rays - quite a broad range, so you can do lots of stuff with different x-rays.
100keV+ is gamma-rays.
Finally, something I know a bit about!
