I would hope that you could prove to the cops that your end of the bargain is being upheld, and if anyone should be punished it's the one who hasn't been paying.
By going to the press, you might be able to get someone to donate money, or convince the landowner to not kick you out.

Go to the cops with what? the rent deposit slips and text messages of him saying him will pay his property taxes? What will the cops do about it? arrest him? I would hope so, because this guy is a total slumlord piece of shit, another detail is that there are no smoke alarms in this house. And when you say convince the landowner, you mean the person who buys the house at the auction? how do you go about telling the press? I'm not even sure who I contact.
If the hypothetical idea of an afterlife means more to you than the objectively true reality we all share, then you deserve no respect.
