It holds about the same weight, I agree with you, but religion is a well established part of our evolution.
Think about the mindset of the first humans who came up with the idea.
I have, and you answered your statement towards me, for me. That's just it, it's an idea.
What makes you think religion is "perfected" (which it's not) and is a "more perfected" idea than any other irrational belief? Because it has a book? Because people have followed it for many, many years?
By perfected I meant honed or crafted, I didn't say religion was perfect full stop. As in the greatest story ever told. As opposed to Santa Claus which isn't even meant to stand up in court, it's a bit of fun for kids.

Cannibalism has been around since tens of thousands of years before YOU were born also, but this is not tens of thousands of years ago, this is after you have been born. Would you care to respect the place of cannibalism in our evolution and allow some people's evolutionary cannibal instinct to impact you?

If a remote tribe was discovered to be eating human flesh, I'd forgive them sooner than I would Jeffrey Dalmer.
Same shit, better excuse.

Respect religions place in our evolution at least.
Even if it is sh************t.
(shit)
Even though religion's past isn't part of our "evolution," going by your logic... Then sure. I should also be thankful and totally accept the many deaths in the world, Hitler, all the wars, etc.
Remember! Without Hitler, you would be who you are today, jason56. Remember, it's part of your evolution. (Somehow)
Sure, you could argue that everything is evolution in that context and not just simply history, but I don't believe we COULD be here today without religion - as opposed to Hitler, landing on the moon or Janet Jackson's tit popping out. Religion is a tool that has aided our success as a species as much as it has harmed us. In many ways it's like a side effect to being a human. Why will the same person believe in a God but not a giant talking tree? You can compare them in an argument against both, but believe me, it's not the same thing.
Know your enemy before you try to disarm them.
but carry on. I like the idea of an atheist website and I'm glad I found this place. and I don't mean to offend anyone or disrespect their opinion. If I come across as sounding arrogant, it's mainly because I consider myself to be better than you.
Now, Jesus; how did he change the molecular structure of the water molecule to allow it to support his mass?
Can someone answer that or can I cross that bit out of my bible?
