I didn't carry my son to term; his mother did. But I shared wake-up/feeding/diaper duties with her. I don't know about maternal bonding, but I know that I bonded with my son at oh-dark-thirty while I was half-asleep with MTV on in the background and the little knucklehead was just happy to be alive. We had some good nights together, the he can't remember but I do with pleasure.
I remember one Sunday morning waking up to hear him on the baby monitor. He was repeating two syllables, over and over: "Dah-dee. Dah-dee. Dah-dee." Clearly practicing. And so I got up and went to his room, asking, "Did someone call for Dah-dee?" We both started laughing.
I'm not sure that hormones bind as tightly as emotions.
