That's a very underrated sci-fi/horror flick.
There aren't very many horror flicks that actually freak me out. "The Ring" freaked me right the fuck out.
I saw that when I was in college and I woke up in the middle of the night one night and flipped out because my coat hanging on the lower coat hook on the back of my bedroom door made the shape of the little girl.
As for scariest movie I ever saw, I was quite scared by The Exorcist when I saw it. I was about 13 or 14 and my sister and I decided that we would watch all the horror movies that had been rated the scariest and we accidentally inverted The Exorcist and Poltergeist.
I try and put myself in the mindset to accept what movies give me, to accept their premises, so in a world where demon possession is a thing then the Exorcist terrified me. Plus it hits a nerve with me generally about losing autonomy and my ability to control my out body. This is one reason I refuse to watch Still Alice even though it's not a horror movie, it's a drama about Alzheimers.
Plus, I live alone now, so I'm not allowed to watch horror movies - especially ones about serial killers, stalkers, slashers, home invaders, etc. - or anything to do with true crime (even though I love watching documentaries about true crime) - they make me paranoid. So I haven't seen either in a long time. I don't know how I'd do if I watched a supernatural horror movie now. I suspect it would still scare me.
Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.
