They're boring! There's no action in art movies or anything to keep your eyes open and your attention focused. The only thing that art movies are good for is to be a substitute for sleeping drugs.
There's one movie I like (which I often re-watch) but it's more of a drama than an art movie:

At least it's not an art movie in the sense I'm thinking you're talking about.
