Yes, and the nice ones are helping keep alive the myth, instead of relegating it to ancient literature (think of the way people read the works about Zeus et al.). Telling people it is extremely important and acting on that runs the risk that one of them will take a closer look at it and say to himself, "hmmm, this sure does not read like it is supposed to be a metaphor...."
