They're considering killing him offscreen (in the show). Nice and tidy.

And hopefully, the show runners will find a way to kill him off and do it right. Honestly, as long as I've been watching it, I've fully expected it to end with Underwood being assassinated. Really, he's an expy of Richard III; it should be expected.

If all goes well, they should find a way to balance out the needs of the show with the need to not associate with a likely sexual predator, because it's annoying to see a work get finished like a patchwork quilt because the star died, and it's doubly annoying when it turns out that it's only the star's career that died.
