Something about the GOP has had me extremely alarmed; I think I first noticed it with Bush, but in hindsight, I think there was some amount of it there earlier: the Republican party is anti-intellectual.
This isn't just saying they're stupid, because, truthfully, there are some intelligent republicans (they're few and far between). I mean that they distrust academia and intelligence and specificaly gravitate towards simplicity..... even when it's plain obvious that the situation is extremely complex.
Trump is only the latest itteration of this tendancy. He throws out simple answers to complex issues but keeps having one ridiculous incident after another so that the news media doesn't have time to focus on any of those issues with any significant complexity. So as long as his stupid behavior isn't just completely obvious, Trump is able to distract us before we realize how stupid he really is.
It's going to catch up with him, though. He's starting trade wars with most of the world and those don't tend to end well. When the economy slumps, which is coming, the president tends to take the blame. Unfortunately for the rest of us, when the economy slumps, the rest of the population will be the ones dealing with poverty and unemployment and low wages. I kinda hate that this is what we have to suffer through for the people to realize trickle down isn't working.
Does this mean you're back? Missed you, even though we're friends on FB.
Yeah. For now. My life is getting stable and good, but really busy lately.
I live on facebook. Come see me there. http://www.facebook.com/tara.rizzatto
