Our cats when we lived out in the country where all outdoors. We had a grey one, which disappeared (during small game season). But the last one lived to about 17 yrs. Towards the end, he liked to sun himself out in the street (they moved to town at this point) and refused to move anymore for cars. Still died of old age. They where all de-clawed in the front, and for the most part we didn't have any issues letting them out.
My current cat is an indoor one though. Living in town near a busy street, with fast traffic; it just isn't a good idea to let him out. As they say, the grass is always greener on the other side.
