The first two movies of the last trilogy have been a serious let down. And it seems with Abrams helming the last movie, we're likely to get more of the same.
Rogue One, on the other hand, was in my personal opinion, the best SW movie since Empire.
Then we have Solo. While kinda fun it wasn't a great movie.
On the TV front, the animated shows have, for the most part, been great. They have filled out the gaps between movies very well. I'm not loving what little I've seen of the new animated shw, "Resistance", but I'll judge it on its own merits.
And the new live action show, "The Mandalorian" shows promise but we'll see about that, too.
So, should we be optimistic or pessimistic about the future?
I lost interest after the first original 3. I did try to give the new series a chance, but to me it fell flat.
But only to me. James Bond films have the same arguments between fans. I can't stand the new guy, but I also didn't like Sean Connery, the original. My favorite Bond was Roger Moore.
I think the same can be said for Star Trek. I was never really fond of the original TV series, nor the Movies with the TV series cast. But I did like some episodes of Next Generation and Voyager.
It can really only be chalked up to a generational/taste issue.
