Can a mistake be so big, that the one who did will never have your respect again?

I don’t equate someone’s inherent worth to what they do. I don’t equate forgiveness and respect either. You can make a terrible mistake and still have zero earned zero respect and still be forgiven in my book. I wouldn’t treat that person any different than the thousands of other people I encounter everyday. If that person hasn’t atoned for their mistake I’d apply more cynicism to any meeting we had, for self protection since it’s not obvious they’re changed but I wouldn’t treat them badly because I’d forgiven them. Sometimes that forgiveness can take time though and until they are forgiven I’d probably be treating them worse than the average nobody.
