But maybe if shotgun purchases in the US weren't conducted on a cash-and-carry basis, Ms. Pais would still be alive. Not a certainty, I'll grant you. But if she hadn't been able to walk into a gun shop and walk out with a weapon, there's a chance the police could have gotten to this poor, confused young woman and gotten her some help before she took her own life.

Bullshit. Post #3 of this thread.
And fuck her. Good thing she whacked herself before goinng off on a tear killing others.
You want legitimate firearm owners to go through a bunch of nonsense - doing paperwork galore and waiting periods - while protecting the rights of criminals and crazies.
You're happy that a clearly disturbed teen took her own life? Says something about you, I think. And 'going off on a tear killing others' wouldn't even have been a possibility of she didn't have such easy access to a gun.
Yes, I want legitimate firearm owners to 'go through a bunch of nonsense'. It works everywhere else it's been tried. As for waiting periods, what's wrong with them? Have you ever been in a situation where you had to purchase a gun right this minute? If so, why?
Of course I want to protect the rights of criminals and the mentally ill ( I should think you would as well). But I think that can be accomplished without infringing on YOUR rights.
