Yes and No. Yes, half of UUs are atheists. No, they don't just go to church to socialize (though that is part of any church).
I am an atheist UU. I find value in debating and learning about various religions. By understanding why I reject their claims of ultimate truth, I can get a better understanding of my own beliefs.
The idea behind UU is that the shared life journey is more important than beliefs. Questions that are honestly tackled are more important than easy religious answers.
