Since when did this forum get all PC?? Vitriol is sometimes the only way to get through an argument. It doesn't happen often agreed, but it will happen..to assume otherwise is living in a childish lalaland. People are people they get agitated and for what ever reason (rightly so). I am confused as to the current spate of PC, "can't cope with this anymore" and "victim consciousness" ...this is an atheist forum it does NOT pretend to be a place where warm fuzzy bunnies come up to you and make everything better.
Here is the thing, there is a middle ground here. I don't hold to the "don't be a dick" thing either, but I am not going out of my way to insult people just because they have a different opinion. Vitriol can serve its purpose every now and again, but if it is used at nearly every post certain users make, it loses its sting and just becomes sad really.
I normally see 2 types of theists coming to this forum. 1 is to preach, troll, or convert you, the other being genuinely interested in what our position is and wanting an honest discussion about it.
As I said to CoxRox, it is almost impossible not to offend people if you challenge their core belief system.
But taking a dump on what they feel is a legitimate post even if it is riddled with fallacies and the weirdest forms of mental gymnastics, is not productive or constructive. It can be more prudent then to point out where the issues are with a post, than dismiss the theist as "just another idiot".
