Some food for thought, perfect for the thread.
For reference, "showing off" in this case...means twirling it on the trigger around his finger while loaded.....we've got ourselves a fucking cowboy! Shot her in the head, both she and the child were lost, ofc.
The State Attorney Explains-
So, pretty shitty state, right....however, there's a silver lining...
So.....we can obviously write laws that don't have to come up against the 2nd amendment, that work....we should do more of that, right?
Quote:Last month, Florida prosecutors decided not to press charges against a man who fatally shot his pregnant friend while showing off one of his guns.http://www.cbsnews.com/news/when-is-an-a...y-a-crime/

The State Attorney Explains-
Quote:"An accidental discharge of a firearm causing death, even if the result of gross negligence cannot be prosecuted criminally," King wrote. "Just as it is my duty to prosecute those who violate the law, it is equally my duty to refrain from prosecuting those whose conduct, no matter how outrageous, does not constitute a crime. This is such a case."
So, pretty shitty state, right....however, there's a silver lining...
Quote:According to a 2000 study published in the journal , in the two years after Florida passed a law holding adults criminally responsible for the unsafe storage of a firearm, the state saw a 51 percent decline in unintentional shootings of minors. The study did not find a significant decline in the 14 other states that had passed similar laws at the time - although they noted that only two other states besides Florida made the crime a felony, as opposed to a misdemeanor.Imagine that, when there are consequences for our actions we consider them more thouroughly.....bit like running a red light.
So.....we can obviously write laws that don't have to come up against the 2nd amendment, that work....we should do more of that, right?
Quote:The Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence's Nichols says that about half of all states have adopted laws stating that you are guilty of a crime if you store you gun in such a way that a child can access it, and harm results --awesome...whats the holdup?
Quote:but prosecutors have great discretion over whether or not to bring charges. The statutes vary on whether the crime of unsafe storage is a felony or a misdemeanor.oooooh.....like the dirtbag State Attorney up above? Seems to me like twirling a loaded gun around your finger qualifies as "unsafe storage", so..in Florida....a felony, or not...I guess.......
