From my perspective, words have meaning because they have consistent definitions. In the case of the word "marriage" the use of the term in Western cultures for at least the last 500 years has been a socially sanctioned monogamous commitment between people of opposite sex. My primary objection to gay-marriage and reintroducing polygamy, is that both mess around with language to promote a political agenda.
I also mourn the loss of the word gay as a type of happiness. Now it means homosexual. And pretty soon it will come to mean uncool. And so many other words, gone by virtue of redefinition or political correctness.
