How would allowing same sex partners to marry affect him personally unless he was gay? Live and let live already.

I don't much care what they want to believe and how they want to live, that is none of my business. My problem is that they are not
willing to extend the rest of us the same courtesy.
Come to think of it, courtesy is not one of their strong suits either.
Christians are a bit like bacteria. There are plenty who live in harmony with the system and who even benefit it. However inevitably it's the ones which make you sick which you become aware of.
