I'd say we are bombarded with commercials for fast food all the time - and fast food is a MAJOR contributor to obesity in our societies.
This is bad in Greece but its worse in the UK. I catch a lot of UK TV and the sheer number of ads for take-away's is astonishing. KFC, McDonnalds, Fast Food Chefs (with an ad about stopping people cooking over the weekend), pizzas (various) and so on.
Add to that there are the number of cooking programs on the TV. I don't think there is a minute of the day when there isn't a cooking program on on one of the channels.
The problem with those is that they make you hungry, they keep you focused on the TV and its all too easy to skip the making something delicious and healthy thing and just order-in.
Genuinely what proportion of our meals are prepared at home any more?
Even if you do stagger to the supermarket - how many pre-prepared meals are there on the shelves, in the refrigerators and frozen for you to choose from?
They're just so easy - 3 minutes in the microwave and you have a delicious.....something, chock full of sugars, salts, flavourings and preservatives with most of the actual nutrients destroyed in the preparation.
Whilst these may not be good for you the industry is smart enough to make them both extremely tasty and, imho, addictive.
Why are people overweight?
The food industry.
