I would like to contest that. Unless you're using crappy constant 128 bitrate mp3s from the 90s from first generation encoders, differences between headphones are gigantic even with lossy compression, say in mp3s or AACs bought from Amazon or iTunes, or even most Youtube videos containing professionally recorded music. I'd go so far as to say that only with very very good headphones will you even have a chance to notice a difference between modern lossy and lossless media. I can only recommend going to a store and listening to some acoustic music on a Sennheiser 650 or 700 or something equivalent by AKG etc., to get an idea about the high water mark that can be reached for under a grand.
