@Rfyt;
Some hints for you and others when you finally have the good fortune to visit Australia. (perhaps leave it for a while, many of the good bits are currently under water)
You will probably go to at least one barbecue*. Make sure you take a slab of beer, (24 bottles),it will ingratiate you with the host.
DO make a pass at the host's wife. Although not expected,she'll be flattered and your host will be just thrilled that you approve of his taste in women.
You will be expected to eat at least l kg (2 pounds) of meat. Probably no shrimp or fish. More likely to be sausages, lamb chops and steak,served with some inventive (for an American) salads. At a posh barbecue they may serve things such as kangaroo sausages and steaks plus chicken sates.
Do NOT make a pass at the quiet young woman in the corner who looks like Elle McPherson. That's young Chantelle/Skye/ Madonna/Kylie,the host's daughter. She's twelve.. A lot of visiting Americans end up in hospital after making similar mistakes.That and mistaking local celebrities for prostitutes..
*In Australia, the word 'barbecue' has come to mean the event, not the style of cooking.Few people still use wood or charcoal,preferring to use humungous gas cookers,which grill,fry or bake, but do not barbecue food. ME? I use charcoal only, on my Baby Weber.The last barbecue I had was in 1998. I did a whole chook (chicken) and beef sates..
