For myself, I don't allow faces either. However, I have spoken to folks who have beautiful tributes to spouses, and they were glad they got them - - one still loved his even after a painful divorce. So - only you know how you will react.
Avoid bony spots like the plague. They hurt. On any well-padded spot, well - - you know the sensation when a cat is on your lap and is happily "kneading" their claws into your skin? It feels exactly like that - just more steady. No big deal.
