Rebuilt a double barrel carburetor when I was 19. Before I was allowed to get my license, it was a requirement that I learn the basics: Change a tire, change brakes (rotors, drums, pads, calipers, bleeding etc), oil and filter change, complete tune up etc. I also had to be able to recognize the starter, water pump, know the different types of belts and how to change them: AC belt, Serpentine etc. I had to learn how to gap and change spark plugs, change air filters, change cable and hydraulic clutches and various other workings of cars. I have only ever been stranded on the side of the road one time and that was when my tire decided to develop a mind of its own and came off the car. It went up 702 towards the 695 beltway from Essex. Thankfully a friend saw me and took me home and called for a tow truck.
