The verbiage in the Bible, iirc, is that the virgins were given to the warriors -- which comports exactly with the contemporaneous view of women as property. Additionally, in Deuteronomy, Yahweh specifically talks about women being the "spoils" of war, a clear indication that they may be used without regards for their own wishes. And even though the Israelites frowned upon the rape of their own women, Deuteronomy set down the punishment as 50 shekels ... and forcing the woman to marry her rapist.
