These drugs never treat anything; they only "slow down" the decay. In other words; they lessen the damage caused by the flare-ups. Eventually I know what will happen -And you know it too-: disability. Secondary Progressive MS.

Atlas, slowing down the course of a disease is treating it.  Using disease-modifying therapy one can prevent new lesions from developing in the brain and spinal cord, preventing disease relapses and improving quality of life.

There is also siponimod, a promising new drug for secondary progressive MS, which was previously untreatable.\

First time I hear about siponimod. I think it's great to have a choice at least;. But slowing the disease or enhancing the current state of the patient, is more of a "half treatment" for me. Don't get me wrong; just picturing life without these medications gives me nightmares.

You seem to have a nasty case of "scarcity mentality" -- Your post implies that everyone should drop everything and work only on one particular set of socioeconomic problems, doing nothing at all about other problems even though it's comparatively easier to deal effectively with those other problems and improve people's quality of life by doing so.

When humans meet good conditions; they become lazy. Look at the modern human, and the ancient one. One is wasting their time in front of videogames, and the other is hunting for his family, facing all kinds of dangers in the forest next door.

I'm not a mental push up, but I think humanity would build amazing things if they kept up to that special standard.

The scientific revolution was pushed forward through threats of hunger and war. Nowadays, speaking about that itself labels one as a failed social product, I bet ancients would do hell lots of a better job with the stuff we have today.

I know my own strengths and weaknesses and interests.  I am not a politician or a lawyer or a media personality or a billionaire.  I am not going to toss my hard-earned money into some black hole of lobbying and focus groups and "feed the starving children" hype that might provide some small amount of help to some far-flung corner of the globe -- if local warlords don't hijack the supply trucks, that is.  I would much rather invest that money in medical research (including the Multiple Sclerosis Society, which gets a donation from me every year).

And you're wise to do so. Many of the wealthy cartels that eat our societies hide behind "Churches, mosques and charity centers".
Not to clear the medical field's name totally, but it's so better to invest in the treatment of others,

I sometimes think who would pay for things like the MS societies around, believe me that money isn't wasted because any person with MS will usually spend hours reading an article here or about an event there. It's such a great thing you're doing.Thank you.

While donating to research projects, I can also go to the store and purchase nice new clothing and undergarments to donate to local homeless people.  At the same time I can give food to a food bank, pet food and cat litter to an animal shelter, and money to a clinic to supply birth control for women who want it but can't afford it.  I don't have to choose just one.

Wanting to see a whole globe of people who do what you do, is not too much if you think about it.
I consider it a duty to love doing good to humans. I just believe in "what goes around always come back around". So I think if everybody joined hands, and gave the tiniest of things; earth would change drastically.

Instead of exchanging paranoia and death, enhancing the lives of others is better.

You're right: no question about that;while some care about the quality, others care about science...etc.
But the scale is broken if you observe earth.

Interested in making the world a better place, Atlas?  Don't treat it as an all-or-nothing deal; just do something.  Anything.  It's better and easier to relieve suffering when and how you can, rather than waiting for utopia to just pop out of nowhere or waiting for a god to exact justice after we're dead.

I do try. Even the smallest things.
I try to not hurt people. And also ask about those forgotten because of wars and even victims of bullying.

Even teach who can't have the right education to excel in programming. It's what I do best.

    So the fuck what? Hate to burst your bubble buddy, but there is no "forever" so there still is no medicine that will cure death, we all die from something eventually. So while some medicines/ operations can cure, and while the ones you talk about now don't currently cure, medical research in can lead to a cure in the future. But  even with finding cures, there will never be a cure for death regardless, so yea, ultimately everything medical can still only delay death, not prevent it. And what real human doctors do is still far more than a fictional sky hero will ever do.

    Again Atlass, if someone quoting the bible and pointing to medicine wont convince you you need to be a Christian, why should anyone here reading this be convinced when you try it?

No, it's not about death, it's about spending all your life on bumpy road, with sharp needles under your butt. It hurts.
The cure can take time, but legalizing medicinal marijuana for example, is a big help.

Maybe God helped them, eventually he gave humans brains.

    Dude,  we in the west as you call it have NHS... its not perfect and always motive for discussion, but those near me that died, got their best treatments.

    Yes, investigation into better treatments could be done and should be done. Its called science, not religion. Your god should want its creation to understand its "universe" they were brought into. To better survive, wisely.

    That is why I dont believe in gods. It is a bullshit created by those that seek power to themselves by being prophets of piss and shit. If you want to postulate on the unknown, bring us a way to find if what spews out of your mind can be methadologically experienced. 


Governments here a not even trying. While some countries have limited treatment options for limited number of sicknesses for a limited number of audience, some countries don't even have the luxury of things like an effective health service.

All I'm saying is that so many governments should be ashamed from the amount of spending on things like the military compared to medicine.
I'm sure that if more spending was put in the research, many things will get so much better, many lives will change. So it's a very big thing.

Peace is rare throughout history. We should use it well.
