It could be that they did care that he is likely racist but still saw him as a lesser evil over Hilary, so begrudgingly voted for him for that reason. I feel I personally know quite a few people who fall into this category.
Yes, they saw racism as less important than lying. Lucky for them, they got both with Trump.
I know this is going to sound like a radical proposition, but I'm of the belief that in a nation whose Constitution guarantees equal protection under the laws, it is important that the Chief Executive be free of bigotries. I would never vote for someone who holds racist values. Ever.
