Yeah I think the mistake we made was sending them to a very very large continent. I think the solution now is for America to split in two. The crazy religious gun toting nuts can live in the south and everyone else can live in the north. Give everyone a chance to make a decision whether they want to live north or south and then build a new border. Once people have made their decision to live in the south though they don't get to change their mind. Instead they have to stay there and deal with the consequences (or flee to Mexico). But northerners who like the idea of living in a gun ridden theocracy are free to move south on condition that they don't return.
That way everyone is happy (except the Mexicans).
