I'll cuss out a wrench, and because of the situations that lead me to cussing out a wrench it's a wonder I still have fingers. The notion of being favored (or cursed) by the gods is a common one. I, like you, think that it's informed at least to some extent by the same thing that makes me feel as though the wrench is trying to get me maimed.
The amusing bit, ofc, is that most of us realize that the wrench is doing no such thing (when we're done calling it;s mother a whore, obviously)..but some of us retain that feeling in the form of an amorphous floating intent when we put the wrench down. It's difficult to determine where, at any point in this..we're discussing a god or a reason to believe in gods..unless we're using the term reason -very- loosely (which I'm certain that every single believer in this thread has, in this thread, so I guess there's that).
Me..if I had to name the "cosmic fucker with"...would I call it god? No. If I wanted to pick from superstition I'd call it miasma, or fortune.

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
