Except back in the old days, nobles had a code of honor ("Nobless Oblige") that said they must care for the needs of their peasants. They might or might not take that oath seriously but at least the directive was there. 

Not only is there no such directive for modern feudal lords but the opposite is true under Randite ideology. If you're poor, it is your moral failing and you deserve whatever happens to you. The corporate overlords have an obligation to maximize shareholder value and if that means stepping on you, so be it.

To wit:  Check the stock ticker for the day GM made the announcement.  Their stock price shot up because the greedy motherfuckers do not give a shit about "the little people."

And neither does the Orange Shitgibbon.
