The first two movies of the last trilogy have been a serious let down. And it seems with Abrams helming the last movie, we're likely to get more of the same.
Rogue One, on the other hand, was in my personal opinion, the best SW movie since Empire.
Then we have Solo. While kinda fun it wasn't a great movie.
On the TV front, the animated shows have, for the most part, been great. They have filled out the gaps between movies very well. I'm not loving what little I've seen of the new animated shw, "Resistance", but I'll judge it on its own merits.
And the new live action show, "The Mandalorian" shows promise but we'll see about that, too.
So, should we be optimistic or pessimistic about the future?
Does Star Wars have a future? In what context?
I think they should have stopped after the original 3. But money talks, so who knows.
There was also a Friday The 13th "Jason Takes Manhattan". And pretty sure at some point some board Hollywood writer/director will want to dredge that up again too.
Classic movies that people love stem from the originals, and it is hard if not impossible to create a franchise over decades.
The Star Wars Series has become a lot like the James Bond movies, every generation has their favorite.
Personally I hate everything past the first 3 original Star Wars. But just like I hate Sean Connery and love Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton, who can say?
Jaws 3d sucked and so did "Jaws The Revenge".
