It's a pretty big ask on our end, our private nuclear sector isn't even remotely competitive with russia or chinas state offer. The only reason to get in bed with us is to build the relationship outside of that specific program and to lean on our expertise. All of which comes with a hefty price tag in dollars, politically, and practically.
I suppose that with the dipshits currently running things (into the ground) a particularly short sighted despot might imagine that the bad old good times could last forever.,.....but I think you might have a better understanding of the consequences of inviting us into your house than that. Dirtbag admins come and go.....american presence, OTOH, is stubbornly persistent.
I do not disagree which is why i said this is the lessor of two evils. to me those guys should be running all their power plants on oil which cost nothing to them as the state own all of it technically, but big picture this will all eventually come down to WMDs. Iran will have them sooner or later if not dirty bomb tech and so will saudis. so again do we want them going into the nuclear age owing NKorea china or the ussr a solid/in bed with the same despots who is arming Iran or would it be better if we walk them through having at least some allegiance to us?
There is no good answer here. the problem with this situation though is that the saudis will get there bomb one way or another, and if our partnership is strained at best now, where would we stand when in peace they asked for help even under the fake headline of providing cleaner energy and we said no, but putin said yes?
