Fun fact: every so often, I come down with some respiratory thing. Also, once a year or so, American Science and Surplus has a sale at their warehouses. A couple years ago, I found a big set of surgical masks. I bought them. I've only needed to use them a few times. That said, the consensus seems to be that they're only necessary for people who are already sick and caretakers. It turns out they're not all that effective for protecting the healthy.
