It'll be something we'll all get used to.
A yearly culling so to speak.
Would that be nature doing the population control for us
That is what is known as "herd immunity" which does happen, but over generations, not by the bullshit idea that infecting others in one setting will make the entire species immune.
Even with this virus, if you watch the news individuals react differently depending on multiple factors. Many will get through it but many die. It is simple evolution as to why a species becomes immune to something collectively, it doesn't happen overnight or within one generation.
Vaccines are a shortcut to the "herd immunity" that nature produces over several generations.
If a vaccine isn't available, scientist have always found ways to make an illness more manageable.
With any virus/bacteria it is as simple as figuring out the DNA/RNA code, then figuring out which sequence is causing the problem, then finding a counter code to stop it.
I over simplified that, yes. But drug or vaccine, that is the goal, to disrupt the reproduction of the bacteria/virus. You can think of it as like taking a bolt cutter to a metal chain.
