Maybe a couple elections ago, that assumption that conservatives are trying to beat the opposition at what they think is their own game might have been plausible. With the rise of Trump, I'm convinced that the problem is much deeper than that: namely that this is what they think morality in general is, just with different cultural signifiers. Once you see enough people defending Trump's "grab em by the pussy" tape and acting like merely the word "pussy" is the source of the outrage (and not that he's basically Bob Dursted himself and confirmed that he sees nothing wrong with being a sexual predator), it's kind of hard for me to think otherwise, especially when you see this isn't all that much of an aberration.
