I agree that religious exemptions should be eliminated. But given that isn't likely to happen any time soon, states can drill down on whether the belief is sincerely held which is a requirement for the exemption. That is where I think they can be challenged because the government doesn't simply have to take one's word for what he or she believes. If the specific belief appears out of nowhere, inconsistent with other tenets of one's religion and opportunistically timed, the exemption request can be rejected. Of course, this too will take political will which is unfortunately all too lacking today.
