Britain is going to get rid of all mandatory COVID restrictions. My guess is that this is a bone to the Conservatives to stave off calls within Boris Johnson's own party for his resignation.
Honestly, we will have to get to this point eventually. With everyone who wants it getting boosters ever 6 months, we will just to say "take your chances" if we can keep hospitalizations at a reasonable level.
The problem with Johnson's actions, is that the spike is only half-way down, and it is likely too early to do this type of change. If people see the numbers spike again, no-one will feel safe frequenting all those businesses who are calling for full re-opening, when the government has declared "everyone for themselves".
