Sura 7:54 says, 'Surely your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six days.' This seems clear and unambiguous. God created everything there was to create in six days.
But in Sura 41:9-12, we have, 'Do you verily disbelieve in Him Who created the earth in two Days and you set up rivals with Him? That is the Lord of the Alamin...He placed therein firm mountains from above it and he bless it, and measured therein its sustenance in four days...Then he completed and finished from their creation as seven heavens in two days...' This is saying that God took two days to create the Earth, four days to add mountains, bless it, and do some measuring, then two more days to create the heavens. This is a total of eight days.
You have no "then" between the first step and the second. Nothing says in the verse that the two-day period and the four-day one are disjoint. Most exegesis here includes the period of creating earth in the four day period. So the sum total is still 4+2=6. And boom the Qur'an is Allah's word.
But if you can give prove from the verse that the two first periods are disjoint, then you're done with Islam. Good luck;
The arabic version doesn't yield this confusion, as the time conjunctions used between the periods are very precise.
