The recent public rise of atheism is very much a response to the recent campaign in America to teach creationism in public schools, and to discredit science(specifically, evolution).
In addition, this attack is almost entirely led by Christians, as it is by far the most popular religion in America. This is why you will find the majority of debate to be related to Christianity.
That said, I personally feel Islam is just as absurd and illogical as Christianity, Buddhism, Paganism, and any other religion you can name. Things like the sensitivity towards depiction of the prophet Mohammed and specific rituals are very bizarre and deserve ridicule.
I actually joined a few Facebook groups such as "Remove Images of the Prophet from Wikipedia" and "Remove the Facebook group 'I named my toilet Mohammed'" just to mock for this insane stance. You better believe I got barely readable death threats in my inbox instantly.
